Bolet, Jorge. (1914 - 1990)

Original Photograph

Handsome original portrait photograph of the great Cuban pianist, with "Oct. 1940" stamped to the verso.  Small tear in lower portion, otherwise in fine condition.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).
A student of Leopold Godowsky, Josef Hofmann, and Moriz Rosenthal, Bolet succeeded Rudolf Serkin as Head of Piano at the Curtis Institute, but left the post to concentrate on his performing career.  A measure of Bolet's stature can be given by the fact that the dean of American music critics, Harold Schonberg, considered him "a kind of latter-day Josef Lhévinne."
