Gershwin, Ira. (1896–1983)

Signed Letter about George's School Orchestra

Typed letter on personal Beverly Hills, CA letterhead, signed "Ira Gershwin" in black ink. One page. April 15, 1969. To Mr. Herman Bueller, in full: "Thank you for your letter re the Henry Lefkowitz Orchestra at P.S. 63. Yes, my brother George was, like you, a member of the organization but I doubt that his services were required to any great extent as, to my recollection, the #1 pianist was Jacques Miller. I heard the orchestra only once and I'm pretty sure that on that occasion the concert was at Cooper Union and the principal soloist was Max Rosen. (I believe too that on that night money was being raised to send Max off to study in Europe - can it be that he was to study with Auer?) Anyway, again my thanks for your interesting letter, not forgetting your kind remarks about my lyrics. Also, best wishes to you and Mrs. Bueller personally, and to all your musical activities."

An interesting letter, in very fine condition, about one of Geroge Gershwin's earliest musical activities. (5486)
