Autograph letter in pencil, signed “Lenny,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, TWA In Flight letterhead, March 19, 1950. Letter addressed to “Maitre and Maitresse,” [Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Monteux]. In part: “Pens leak up here in the sky; but I want to tell you again, even if only in pencil, what a joy my week in San Francisco was, and how grateful I am for this long-awaited opportunity. You have both been so kind and full of warmth that it is almost necessary to revise one’s concept of the conducting profession!” After his signature, Bernstein adds: “Please do convey my thanks and affection to our whole orchestra!”



In fine condition, with a small pencil notation at top. A remarkable letter. (5455)
