Original program from the Philharmonic Society Sixth Concert, Monday June 23, 1856. Paradis and the Peri A Cantata For Solo Voices, Chorus, and Orchestra by Dr. Robert Schumann. The Poetry from Moore’s “Lalla-Rookh,” Translated and adapted to the music by William Bartholomew. First time of performance in England. 8pp., 4to. Title page dust marked, some light foxing, but a very good copy.

Sterndale Bennet conducts the first English performance of Schumann’s beautiful cantata, with Lind, Lockey, Weiss, Benson, Montem Smith and Lawler being the principle singers. It was just one month after this performance that Schumann died. (5367)
