[Hollywood] Hepburn, Katharine. (1907–2003)

Personal Photograph with Inscribed Envelope

A unique item from the great American actress - a rare and likely unique personal Kodak photograph of Hepburn seen from behind, standing at the water's edge at her Fenwick, CT home. Sold together with the photograph envelope, on which Hepburn has initialled, writing "KH - Fenwick house - May BR 1991."

In Hepburn's last will and testament, she identified herself simply as ''I, Katharine Hepburn, of Fenwick, Connecticut.'' "Fenwick, a tiny borough by Long Island Sound, is the place where her family summered for almost a century. It is the place she returned to when she was labeled ''box-office poison'' to plot her comeback. It is the place where she escaped nearly every weekend she could. And it is the place where she retreated seven years ago when age took its toll. She told John Bryson, a favorite photographer of hers, that ''the me I know is the person at Fenwick.''" (Alison, L. Cowan, NY Times October 11, 2003) (5186)
