Scholz, Janos. (1903 - 1989)

Signed Photograph to the Moening Luthier Shop

A superb original photograph, boldly signed by the great cellist of the Roth String Quartet. Inscribed, "To all the Moennigs, with much appreciation, and sincere friendship, Janos Scholz, Philadelphia, 1944." 7 x 8.5 inches (17.8 x 21.6 cm). Matted and simply framed, just as it hung on the Moening shop wall.

The storied William Moennig & Son violin shop was founded in 1909 by William Moennig Sr., after he immigrated to the United States from Markneukirchen, Germany. The family business was passed down through the generations, to his son, William Moennig Jr., and then to his grandson, William Moennig III. Through its 100 year history it remained one of the most prominent string-instrument shops in the country, frequented by soloists such as Jascha Heifetz, Isaac Stern, Itzhak Perlman and other famous musicians.
