Translated from the French by Sacheverell Sitwell, with an introduction by Boris Kochno, and an appreciation by Cyril W. Beaumont. Original illustrated yellow boards with a portrait of Lifar in Apollo Musagetes, laminate white cloth spine with yellow cord, as issued. Handcut pages, scattered foxing, overall fine. 28 x 33.5 cm.


A scarce book of images of the choreographer and dancer in Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Later, he became director of the Paris Opera Ballet (1929) and there created over 50 ballets, including the path-breaking "Icare" (1935), which was written to be danced without music. (4591)
