[Bernstein, Leonard. (1918–1990)] Regan, Ken. (1940 - 2012)

Four Large Original Photographs in Rehearsal, 1972

A superb set of four original doubleweight photographs by Ken Regan, taken in 1972 at Lincoln Center, New York. Three measuring 9 x 14 inches, one 9.75 x 14 inches. Edges slightly creased, overall fine. Stamped by the photographer on the verso of each and identified in his hand.

Bernstein is shown conducting during a rehearsal, variously in motion with his baton, pointing in the direction of the camera, gesturing with glasses in hand, expressing his intentions with his facial expressions, deeply invested in the act of music making. An extraordinary set.

Ken Regan was born and grew up in the Bronx and studied journalism at Columbia and attended New York University's Film School. Though he covered riots and demonstrations in the United States, and wars in Vietnam and later in the Persian Gulf and Bosnia, he was especially known for his photographs of musicians, including those taken in 1975 when he did back to back tours with Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, later also covering the Band's Last Waltz, and George Harrison's benefit for Bangladesh.
