"Les Statues de L'Alcade des Bouffes Parisiens," Inscribed to Madame Offenbach

Paris: Schnenberger. [ca. 1850]. Oblong folio (10 5/8 x 13 5/8 inches). 5pp. Cover lithograph by Victor Coindre, engraved music. [PN] 2297. Inscribed in blue ink: "Hommage de l'auteur a Madame J. Offenbach, A[ugus]te Pilati" [Juliano, being his pseudonym]. Separated at spine, lighly worn and somewhat toned mostly at margins, otherwise fine.

Auguste Pilati was a violinist, conductor and composer, especially popular for his concerts of light dance music at the London Colosseum. He collaborated with Flotow and Grisar to compose the joint opera, Le naufrage de la Méduse.

The Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens in Paris was famous for its productions of operetta and opéra comique, especially those of its founder, the composer Jacques Offenbach. The present association copy, inscribed to Offenbach's wife, is therefore of particular interest. (3965)
