A rare AMQS from the celebrated violinist and pedagogue, teacher of Joseph Joachim, Leopold Auer and Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, as well as his own two virtuoso sons, Joseph and Georg Hellmesberger Jr.. As concertmaster of the Vienna Court Opera after the death of of Ignaz Schuppanzigh in 1830, he was regarded as "as the most popular Austrian violinist of the day."
