A scarce AMQS in the hand of the English composer and violinist, a student of César Thomson who went on to be known especially for his orchestral pieces in the "light music" style. Here, Wood has penned a quotation from his most famous composition, signing it "Yours Sincerely Haydn Wood Xmas 1946." 8 x 10.5 cm."Roses of Picardy" is a wartime ballad written by British songwriter Frederick Weatherly while he was an army officer in 1916 and set to music by Haydn Wood. It was one of the most famous songs from World War I. (3798)
