Liszt, Franz. (1811–1886)

Original 1825 Program of the young "Master Liszt."

An extremely rare original broadside from an early performance by the very young "Master Liszt." Theatre Royal, Manchester on June 16th 1825. The principal attraction of the concert was the young Franz Liszt, in this, the first of two concerts he gave in Manchester in 1825, sponsored by the piano manufacturers Erard. 25 X 37 cm.

The remarkable lengthy program from his second sojourn to Manchester included performances by Liszt of numerous works, including a “Grand Concerto” by Hummel, “Air with Grand Variations” by Czerny, as well as “An Extempore FANTASIA on the Grand Piano Forte by Master Liszt, who will respectfully request a written Thema from any Person present.”

In worn condition, creases and minor losses mostly at edges, mounted to vintage canvas and holding solid. A few notes in period ink, fully presentable and a remarkable survival from the very beginning of the composer-pianist's storied career. (3701)
