An uncommon signed doubleweight 8 X 10 inch photograph of the renowned French pianist, composer and pedagogue of Hungarian birth. Inscribed "Pour Mrs. Dort, bien sympatique souvenir. I. Philipp. 1936." Stamped by the photographer, Delar of New York, on the verso and in very fine condition.

A student of Georges Mathias (a Chopin student) and of Saint-Saens, he impressed Liszt, Rubinstein and Tchaikovsky with his playing and was celebrated for his beautiful touch and immaculate technique. A renowned teacher, his students included Nikita Magaloff, Guiomar Novaes, Jean Francaix, Yvonne Loriod, Beveridge Webster, Aaron Copland and many others! (3514)
