New York City, Feb. 18 [1909]. Addressed to "Madame Tagliapietra" [Teresa Tagliapietra-Carreño]. 2 pages, attached, both recto. 11 X 13 cm. In very fine condition.A nice signed letter from great American Golden Age contralto to the famous Venezuelan piano virtuoso. Saying that she "would not have been able to contribute to your musical page, as I was very busy preparing 'Orfeo,' which I sang for the first time on December third." The performance which Homer refers to was Toscanini's famous revival Orfeo at the Metropolitan Opera, a turning point in the opera's modern history. (3450)
