The program for the 1884 Bayreuth Parsifal is printed on the verso of the front wrapper, opposite the title page. It has been inscribed at the head by the young Blandine Wagner (1863-1941), the second daughter of Cosima and Hans von Bülow: “à Daniel en souvenir de la première visite - - et en allemand une seconde. La cousine, Blandine. Bayreuth, 29.7.1884."

The dedicatee of Blandine's inscription was Daniel Emile Ollivier (1862 - 1941), Liszt's grandson born to his daughter Blandine (1835 - 1862), who had died giving birth to her son in 1862. Daniel had been sent to Bayreuth the previous week by his father, Emile Ollivier. (Carl Lachmund, “Living with Liszt,” p.338)

The 1884 Bayreuth Parsifal was conducted by Hermann Levi, who had conducted the premiere. Cosima was intimately involved with the production and it was the only work performed that year at Bayreuth. (3348)
