Autograph Letter

Signed 1-page autograph letter from the important Hungarian soprano who was a star in London from her 1858 debut until she collapsed onstage during a performance of "Lucrezia Borgia" and died two months later of cancer at the age of 46.

An undated letter, addressed to "My dear Mr. Cale," in which the great singer confesses that that she cannot sing without permission from Mapleson: "You know that in musical arrangements I have no power what ever for Mr. Mapleson does not allow me to sing anywhere without his consent. I wish therefore you would address yourself to him on the subject." Usual creases, somewhat toned, overall fine. Sold together with a vintage lithograph portrait (8.5 x 12 cm). (3317)
