Green, Johnny. (1908 - 1989)

Autograph Musical Quotations, "Body and Soul" & "I Cover the Waterfront."

A fine and scarce pair of AMQS from the American songwriter's most famous songs. Boldly penned in black fountain pen ink on a 3.75 X 9 inch page. Each AMQS is inscribed, signed and dated 11/4/41.

Composed in 1930 and introduced by Libby Holman in the revue "Three's a Crowd" - and used as a soundtrack theme in the 1947 film named for the song - "Body and Soul" quickly became a jazz standard, with hundreds of versions performed and recorded by dozens of artists. Green's "I Cover the Watefront" was composed 1933 and, similarly, was almost immediately adopted as a popular jazz standard. Both songs are written to lyrics by Edward Heyman. (3293)
