A very fine original etching and watercolor portrait of the great tenor in the role of Peter Grimes. A rich, deep impression with bright watercolor additions, executed on heavy Arches paper, signed and title in pencil. 39.5 X 58.5 cm. Bottom corners creased, lightly toned, overall very fine.

The English artist, Milein Cosman (b. 1921) first encountered Peter Pears in November 1947, when she drew him as Peter Grimes at Covent Garden. Her works - many of them portraying great musicians of the mid-20th century - hang in the National Portrait Gallery, the V&A, and The British Museum. (3155)
