A very rare program from the series of three concerts given by Wagner in Vienna at the Theater an der Wien at the end of 1862, when excerpts from the Ring were publicly performed for the first time, some 13 years before the first performance of the full opera cycle. The program consisted of selections from "Die Meistersinger," "Die Walkure," and two pieces from "Siegfried," collectively titled "Schmiedlieder." Wagner made a series of adjustments to the scores of these works expressly for these Vienna concerts.



The present program is an extraordinary rarity, with OCLC recording no other copies worldwide. (3138)
