Original 1937 Buenos Aires Program
An unusual early program from a 1937 recital in Argentina by the great African American contralto, with Kosti Vehanen at the piano. Light creases and stains, overall very good. 6.5 x 9 inches.Anderson was a great favorite of Toscanini and, in 1955, broke the color barrier by becoming the first African-American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. She remains a legendary figure in the history of opera, remembered for, among other highlights, her Lincoln Memorial concert and her performances at the inaugurations of both Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy.
