Rare 1844 Concert Advertisement

A very rare and unusual concert advertisement for a recital given at the Gewandhaus by Clara Schumann and Franz Liszt. Works by Robert Schumann, Mendelssohn, Liszt and others were presented and Liszt and Clara "performed the original duet version of the 'Hexameron', and the whole affair was a great success." "The Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt was Clara and Robert's friend, colleague, and rival. Clara and Franz played for each other and performed together, and Robert and Franz dedicated pieces to each other. It was Liszt who wrote about Clara in the New Music Journal in 1854, 'The lovely playmate of the Muses has become...a priestess.'
