Offenbach sur le Mein: Jean André. [1794]. First edition, first issue. Solo piano score of the so-called "Coronation" Concerto. Upright folio in self-printed wrappers. 20.5 X 28 cm. Title; 2-24. [PN] 715, 707 (p. 16), 725 (p. 20). Spine reinforced with paper, title a little grubby, with one stain (visible also on verso, first page of music). Otherwise a remarkably clean and bright copy throughout. Haberkamp p. 304 (plate 268), recording only 5 copies worldwide and only one in the United States. Because the left hand of large portions of outer movements, and of the entirety of the second movement are missing from the autograph score, the first edition is an important primary source.



"Probably begun by early 1787 (Tyson); played (apparent premiere) by Mozart in Dresden on 14 Apr 1789. Owes popular subtitle to perf. by Mozart during time of Leopold II's coronation in Frankfurt am Main on 15 Oct 1790...standard version, not without stylistic problems, originates with first edition (André) and may be Johann André's own work."
