Original Beethoven Quartet Program

[Berlin]: 1891. “Quartett-Abende Joachim, de Ahna, Wirth, Hausmann...Januar 1891...Saal Der Sing-Akademie." 8vo sheet, 9 x 6 inches (228 x 152 mm), printed on one side. In fine condition with light horizontal creases and very slightly toned.

The great violinist Joseph Joachim was honorary president of the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn and in 1890 presided over the most comprehensive Beethoven exhibition to date, reflecting a renewed interest in the composer's works. The present program includes one of the earliest performances of Beethoven's Opus. 131 quartet, one of the composer's late works which were still not widely performed, even more than 60 years after the composer's death. It wasn't until 1903 that the Joachim Quartet performed all of the Beethoven String Quartets in a complete cycle. (2275)
