Vieuxtemps, Henri. (1820-1881)

Souvenirs der Russie Fantaisie pour le Violon ave accompagnement d'Orchestre ou de Piano... Op. 21

One of several bravura pieces based on folk melodies by the Belgian violinist and composer. Unbound upright folio. Piano score (with violin line also); separate violin part lacking.  In blue-gray wrappers. Paris: E. Troupenas & Cie., [1846; probably later issue]. [PN] E.T. et Cie 1946. 13 pp. Handstamp of "G. Brandus & Dufour" to foot of title. 13.75 x 10.75 inches (53 x 27 cm). Wrappers frayed to edges and partly detached.

It seems ironic that Vieuxtemps composed these "recollections of Russia" before he settled in St. Petersburg from 1846 to 1852 and not after. The "G. Brandus & Dufour" stamp dates from 1858-1872. Brandus had bought the business of Troupenas in 1850, Dufour joined in 1854, and the "Cie." was dropped in 1858. (21780)
