Handsome vintage original photograph of the celebrated Romanian pianist and composer whose life was cut short by Hodgkin's disease at age 33, shown seated at the piano. Considered one of the finest pianists of the 20th century, he left an impressive recorded legacy despite the brevity of his performing career. Penned in blue ink along the lower margin, "Dinu Lipatti / le 26 Oct '46", presumably by the photographer E. Matter of Gstaad, whose has stamped the verso. This intimate portrait of the artist before an empty auditorium was apparently taken before a concert in Switzerland.
