"An Autobiography" – SIGNED

New York: Random House . 1993. First Edition, First Printing. Upright sumo. 287 pp.  Signed and dated by the eminent American photographer on the front free endpaper, "Avedon, 9.27.93," from the collection of Adolph Green and Phyllis Newman.  A visual autobiography that includes an assemblage of 284 photographs, this three-part book encompasses the faces, events and places that were critical in defining the life and career of Richard Avedon.  In fine condition.

Adolph Green was a playwright, performer and lyricist who had a remarkable six-decade collaboration with the equally multi-hyphenated Betty Comden.  The duo co-authored such hit Broadway musicals as On the Town and Bells Are Ringing, as well as the screenplays for Singin' in the Rain and The Band Wagon.  Phyllis Newman won a Tony Award for best featured actress in a musical for Green and Comden's Subways Are for Sleeping just two years after their wedding.  They remained together until Green's death in 2002.  Richard Avedon was a close lifelong friend of the couple, having taken their wedding portraits in New York, January 1960.  (20483)
