Gigli, Beniamino. (1890–1957)

Signed Oversize Photograph

Signed oversized photograph of the honey-voiced tenor as Radames in Verdi's Aida, inscribed and boldly signed to Charles Drumheller, tenor and longtime rehearsal pianist at the Metropolitan and Chicago Lyric Opera: "To Charly with my best wishes / sincerely Beniamino Gigli/ 1938" to the lower margin.  Wear to lower left corner, spots of toning to margin, overall in fine condition.  9 x 12.25 inches (22.9 x 31.1 cm.).

In lyrical and romantic repertory, many regarded Gigli as the legitimate heir of Caruso. He made his professional debut as Enzo in La Gioconda at Rovigo in 1914 and his Rome Opera debut as Faust in Mefistofele in 1916. He later debuted at La Scala in 1918 and first appeared at the Met in 1920, singing every season there until 1932 when he returned to Europe. (20291)
