Plattner a Rotterdam" laid over the original imprint on title, with ownership stamp "P.J. Le Coultre Enkhuizen" to the title page and some other parts, and a bookplate "P. Lecoultre" on front of later plain paper wrappers with mounted manuscript ticket on front cover.   Occasional fingerings in pencil throughout the Violino primo and Violoncello scores, mild dampstaining to upper half, five-inch split along plain wrapper spine, overall in fine condition.

Beethoven had composed dozens of pieces before his official Op. 1, No. 1, including another piano trio. The three piano trios of Op. 1 are, however, 'statement' pieces, a compositional debut carefully calculated for maximum return. Dedicated to Prince Karl Lichnowsky, in whose Vienna home they were premiered, the trios were first published in 1795. The present uncredited arrangement was intended to accommodate musicians without access to a keyboard instrument.   (19999)
