Koren, Ed. (b. 1935)

Signed Original Drawing

An amusing large original drawing signed by the prolific New Yorker Cartoonist, showing eight different examples of his signature fuzzy creatures. Signed "Koren" in pencil to the lower right corner.  Light toning and wear along the edges; overall fine.  30.25 x 22.25 inches (77 x 56.5 cm.).

The New Yorker officially accepted one of his cartoons in 1962, establishing the beginning of Koren's career. Since, thousands of his drawings and cartoons have been published in The New Yorker. When asked about the inspiration for his furry creatures, Koren remarks, "during the late nineteen-sixties and early seventies, an avalanche of hirsutism and fuzziness took over the nation...Long hair, wild hairdos, exuberant facial appendages were everywhere as expressions of social rebellion, political revolt, and a general questioning of everything established.” (The New Yorker, Ed Koren's Avalanche of Furriness).
