Nureyev, Rudolf. (1938–1993)

Collection of Photographs

Four original photographs of the great dancer and choreographer taken from 1967–1977, including several candids.  Rehearsal photograph shows edge wear and surface cracks, all in fine condition otherwise.  Measurements range from 7 x 9.5 to 8 x 10 inches (17.8 x 24.1 to 20.3 x 25.4 cm.).

The first photograph, taken during rehearsals for the Jerome Robbins ballet Dances at a Gathering at the London Opera, dated "19 October 1970" in pencil, and stamped "20 October 1970" to verso.  In addition to the dates are several archival stamps, including one for Le Parisien Libéré and Europix, as well as a French-language UPI press note.

The second photograph, a candid of Nureyev on the telephone backstage with the photographer visible in the mirror to Nureyev's right, stamped "Rudolph Noureev / Londres, Mars 1969 / Copyright Doc Stills 11305 P" to verso.  At the time, Nureyev was in the United Kingdom with fellow dancer Margot Fonteyn rehearsing for the ballet Pelleas and Melisande at the Covent Garden.

The third shows Nureyev with French dancer Zizi Jeanmaire and her husband, choreographer Roland Petit, during the production of Petit's ballet Paradis Perdu (Paradise Lost). Dated "Octobre 1967" with photographer's credit handwritten to verso in black felt tip.

The fourth photograph shows Nureyev with costar Leslie Caron at a press reception for their 1977 film Valentino at Grosvenor House, London.  Keystone press note stamped to verso, dated October 3rd. (19642)
