Postcard photograph of the modern dance and theatrical lighting pioneer, shown in an elaborate costume decorated with butterflies, inscribed "With very kind wishes - Truly yours / Loie Fuller."  Very fine.  5.5 x 3.5 inches (13.6 x 8.7 cm.).

The American dancer Loie Fuller found great success in late-nineteenth-century Paris, appearing at the Folies Bergère and other celebrated venues. Attracting the attention of many artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Chéret, and Rodin, she was frequently painted and became an important figure of the Art Nouveau. She was also a pioneer of modern theatrical lighting, holding several patents for technologies that created colored stage lights. (19365)
