[Music Man] [Willson, Meredith. (1902–1984)] [Trumpet] "The Music Man"

Wooden Marquee Sign

Wonderful and graphically striking hand-painted wooden marquee sign, "The Music Man" related to the 1957 musical with book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson which in 1957 became a hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and running for 1,375 performances. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and spent 245 weeks on the Billboard charts. The show's success led to revivals, including a long-running 2000 Broadway revival, a popular 1962 film adaptation and a 2003 television adaptation. The design of the present item is clearly based on the imagery of the original production poster (and subsequently published sheet music covers) by David Klein, illustrator of choice for many of Broadway’s best-known shows of the golden age of Broadway, whose other poster/window cards from this period include Death of a Salesman, Brigadoon, Most Happy Fella, The Music Man, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Several nail holes through the frame, else fine and with a wire hanger affixed to rear.  9 x 36 x 2.5 inches. (19123)
