"Two's Company" - Original Playbill
Original Playbill for the Broadway production starring Davis in the 1952 musical revue Two's Company at the Alvin Theatre. 44 pp. Wear to spine and edges, else fine. 6.5 x 9 inches (16.5 x 23 cm).Two's Company was a series of show business-themed comedy sketches together with song-and-dance routines, all tailored to suit Davis's talents. The production was troubled from the beginning, with an overworked Davis collapsing during the first song on opening night of the out-of-town tryout in Detroit. After being revived, Davis turned to the audience and said, "Well, you can't say I didn't fall for you!" Unkind reviews followed the show through tryouts in Pittsburgh and Boston, and extensive revisions were made throughout. Songs were cut, added, or rearranged, skits were replaced, and other roles were recast. Even the Broadway debut had to be postponed by 11 days when Davis was bedridden due to exhaustion. Despite terrible reviews, the show ran for 90 largely sold-out performances, closing only when Davis had to leave to undergo jaw surgery. (19115)
