ALS from the French violinist and Romantic-era composer to French composer, musicologist and traveller Oscar Comettant (1819-1898) ("Cher maitre et ami"), concerning the admission of a young composer to La Société des Concerts Modernes. October 5, 1884; 3 pp. Translated from the French in part, "I have the pleasure of telling you that the young composer you recommended to me has been admitted, by the committee, to be a member of la Société des Concerts Modernes. / I do not believe I have forgotten, madame, your beautiful daughter, and I hope to be able, soon, to offer her the promised dedication." Godard goes on to mention upcoming concert dates. The letter has been adhered back together along the central fold line, and on the second page horizontal fold line. Some toning, else fine. 8.25 x 10.75 inches (21 x 27.3 cm.).Renowned French violinist Benjamin Godard was also a pianist and composer and in 1884, he founded the Société des Concerts Modernes as conductor. He produced a vast output of music, having composed over one hundred and fifty works in various genres, which are remarkable for their originality.
