Signed original Leo A. Leigh of London photograph of the Hungarian pianist at the piano, inscribed to Monteux's adoptive daughter Nancie, "My dear Nancy [sic] in love / Lili Kraus / 19. Oct. 39" in faint green ink.  Photographer's stamp to verso.  Heavy corner and surface creases, else fine.  7 x 5 inches (17.9 x 12.9 cm.).
The great conductor Pierre Monteux was known for conducting the premiere of the Rite of Spring and for his tenures with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Paris, and the San Francisco Symphony. (19083)
