Original doubleweight photograph of the legendary 20th-century American impresario and manager of artists such as Marion Anderson, Arthur Rubinstein, David Oistrakh, Anna Pavlova, and Isaac Stern, signed to upper left, together with TLS reading "Dear Mr. Gaber:/ I take pleasure in sending you herewith a signed photograph of myself./ Sincerely yours,/ [Signed] S. Hurok."  Photograph additionally signed by photographer in pencil to lower right corner, "Maurice Goldberg/ Hollywood Cal."  Silvering to lower edge, mounting remnants to verso, else fine.  8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).  Letter 1 pp. dated November 29, 1943, on Hurok Attractions Inc stationary, wear to right edge else very fine.  8.5 x 7.25 inches (21.6 x 18.4 cm.).

From the collection of George Gaber (1916–2007), noted percussionist who performed with a number of professional ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Baltimore Symphony and worked with Leonard Bernstein, Otto Klemperer, Igor Stravinsky, Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington and many others over the span of his career.  From 1960 to 1986 taught percussion at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and was also an artist in residence at Carnegie Mellon University, an adjudicator for National Music Arts in Japan and the Canadian Music Competition, and a Hall of Fame recipient in Percussion Arts Society.
