TLS from the virtuoso violinist, conductor, author, and founder of the Paganini Quartet who was also the concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony under Fritz Reiner 1941-42, performing as soloist in concertos including the Beethoven and Mozart A major. Addressed to George Gaber, a former colleague at the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  1 pp., July 14, 1943, typed on rice paper.  "1190 Green Street, San Francisco, (9)/  July 14, 1943/ Dear George, It seems inconceivable that I could have been so neglectful as not to acknowledge the excellent photos you sent me.  Yet the evidence seems all against me.  Perhaps my marriage last January has made me oblivious of other pleasant ties and duties?  I herewith make amends.... All good wishes and best regards to you and Mrs. Gaber.  [Handwritten] And many thanks!/ Yours sincerely,/ [Signature]."  Mailing folds, else in fine condition.  7.5 x 7 inches (19 x 17.7 cm.).

Together with a portrait photograph performing on his violin, inscribed "To George Gaber, in remembrance of our days in the Pittsburgh Symphony and with every good wish from/ Henri Temianka/ Dec. 31, 1942."  Crease to upper right corner, else in fine condition.  10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm.).

From the collection of George Gaber (1916–2007), noted percussionist who performed with a number of professional ensembles, including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Baltimore Symphony and worked with Leonard Bernstein, Otto Klemperer, Igor Stravinsky, Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington and many others over the span of his career.  From 1960 to 1986 taught percussion at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and was also an artist in residence at Carnegie Mellon University, an adjudicator for National Music Arts in Japan and the Canadian Music Competition, and a Hall of Fame recipient in Percussion Arts Society.
