"Enjoy the present, work for the future!" - Autograph Quotation Signed

Signed autograph statement from the Polish violinist, particularly known as the founder of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has penned (translated from the German): "Enjoy the present, work for the future!" He has signed at the foot and dated 11 October 1906. On an album leaf, with an unrelated and unidentified signature dated August 17, 1957 to verso. Fine. 6.5 x 4 inches (16.5 x 10.2 cm).

A pupil of Lotto and Joachim, Huberman played in public from the age of 7 on. An early triumph was the invitation from Adelina Patti to perform at her farewell recital in London in 1894. Huberman also impressed Brahms with his performance of the composer's violin concerto in 1896. In 1933, during the Nazis' rise to power, Huberman declined invitations from Wilhelm Furtwängler to return to preach a "musical peace", but wrote instead an open letter to German intellectuals inviting them to remember their essential values. In 1936 he founded the Palestine Symphony Orchestra (which upon the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 was renamed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra). For the orchestra, Huberman recruited leading Jewish musicians from Europe, thus saving hundreds of lives. (18914)
