Original pen and ink drawing by the British artist depicting the words "I just feel sad" on four fallen leaves. Along the lower half of the paper are a number of abstract lines in brown ink. On wove paper, ca. 1980. Moderate toning along the top edge, and a small spot of white paint on the middle-left side of the drawing, else fine. Measures 8 x 10 inches (20.4 x 25.5 centimeters).

Hockney met Henry Geldzahler, a curator at the Metropolitan Museum, at Andy Warhol's New York apartment in the 1960's. Hockney and Geldzahler became close friends and travel companions, sharing a sense of humor, interests, and many similar life experiences. Through their friendship, Geldzahler and his partner Christopher became the subjects of numerous works by Hockney.
