The son of famed impressionist painter Auguste Renoir (1841–1919), Jean Renoir is widely considered one of the greatest directors in motion picture history. His films La grande illusion (1937) and La règle de jeu (1939) continue to feature regularly in lists of the greatest movies of all time.
