[Hand Cleanser] [Lindbergh, Charles. (1902–1974)]

"The First Hand Cleanser to make Dirt Fly" - Lindy Hands Cleanser

Original vintage tin of Lindy brand hand cleanser with a vibrant red, white and blue paper label showing a hand rising up behind the Spirit of St. Louis, both above a globe showing Lindbergh's transatlantic flight path.  The slogan "The First Hand Cleanser to make Dirt Fly" appears at the bottom.  The back of the label promises, "Wherever hands need cleaning, put the job up to 'Lindy'. Results will be gratifying."  Made by Price-Rose Manufacturing Co. Inc, in East Stroudsburg, PA.  Rust to tin and light wear to label, but in remarkable condition given its age.  4 inches high (10.24 cm.).

On May 20-21, 1927, Charles Lindbergh literally flew into history when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean in his Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis, thus becoming the first pilot to fly solo and nonstop from New York to Paris. This flight made Lindbergh a household name and catapulted him into fame and celebrity. The many objects of popular culture, from ashtrays to wristwatches to hand sanitzer, emblazoned with his name, reflect the public adulation for Lindbergh and the powerful commercial response to his celebrity.  (18801)
