"España" - Inscribed to Camille Chevillard

Self-printed wrappers, 15 pp. Bound with thread in one gathering, 10.75 x 13.75 inches (27 x 35 cm).   Inscribed and signed on the title page to the French composer and conductor who conducted the Orchestre Lamoureux in the premieres of Claude Debussy's Nocturnes (1900 and 1901) and La mer (1905) and was the son-in-law of the composition's dedicatee: "À Cam[ille] Chevillard / Emmanuel / Chabrier."  Scattered foxing, overall fine. A rare signed score from the French Romantic composer and pianist. 

The most famous orchestral composition by Chabrier, España, rhapsody for orchestra was composed in 1883 after a trip to Spain and is dedicated to the conductor Charles Lamoureux, who conducted the first public performance on 4 November 1883, at the Théâtre du Château d’Eau for the Société des Nouveaux Concerts in Paris.  The present arrangement for two pianos of the orchestral rhapsody bears a printed dedication caption to Charles Lamoureux at top of title page. In 1881 Lamoureux founded and directed the Concerts Lamoureux, also known as the Société des Nouveaux-Concerts; in the mid-1880s and late 1890s, while Lamoureux himself was on tour, the concert series was directed by Lamoureux's son-in-law, Camille Chevillard, to whom Chabrier has inscribed the present copy.
