Dujardin was a Dutch painter and printmaker. According to Houbraken, he was a student of N. Berchem. Two trips to Italy, in 1640 and 1675; otherwise he lived in Amsterdam. In addition to Arcadian landscapes, he created genre scenes, historical paintings, portraits, and some 52 etchings. "An excellent painter and etcher... he turned early to the depiction of burlesque objects for the study of animals, and to the landscape scenery.... Dujardin has also supplied witty leaves, masterpieces of their kind.... [T]he first Imprints are without numbers, without address,... the second imprints have numbers and the address, and on the third the address is blurred, the fourth are the worst."(Nagler 7, pp. 254–55).
