"Le Filibustier Comédie Lyrique en Trois Actes Poème e Jean Richepin... Théatre National de l'Opéra-Comique... Partition Chant et Piano" - PRESENTATION COPY WITH AMQS TO TARQUINI d'OR

Paris: Heugel & Cie.. 1893. Piano-vocal score signed in black ink by both the librettist and the composer, who has added a two-measure autograph musical quotation marked "Moderato"  ("Oui, oui, c'est noir là-bas") and inscribed to the mezzo soprano who created the role of Marie-Anne: "À Madame Tarquini d'Or/ souvenir affectueux et reconnaisant de César Cui." 

Large octavo. Quarter dark green cloth with marbled boards, red leather title label gilt to spine. Illustrated wrappers bound in, 1f. (inscribed ffe); 1f. (printed dedication); 1f. (title); [i] (premiere information and named cast list), [ii-iii] (contents), [i] (blank), 321, [i] (blank) pp. Lithographed. 8 x 11.25 inches (20 x 28.5 cm.). In fine condition, an important association copy. 

A light comedy of mistaken identity, Le Flibustier ("The Buccaneer") to a libretto by Richepin after his play, 1888–1889, was first performed in Paris at the Opéra Comique (Favart), on January 22, 1894. See Robert Letellier, "Opera-Comique: A Sourcebook," p. 256.  

The French soprano Mathilde Tarquini d'Or was the longtime companion of Aristide Bruant,  French cabaret singer, comedian, and nightclub owner, best known as the man in the red scarf and black cape featured on certain famous Lautrec posters.  (18514)
