Rosenthal, Moriz. (1862–1946)

Interesting letter to Emerich Kastner

1 page. Vienna, 2/20, 1886. In German, a fine autograph letter from one famous Liszt student to another. Together with a gravure portrait of Rosenthal.

The great Polish pianist, Moriz Rosenthal, studied with Liszt for 9 years and was one of the most important pianists of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. A regular sonata partner of Fritz Kreisler, he toured frequently and left some fantastic recordings.

Emerich Kasnter (1847-1916) studied with Liszt before going on to become a prominent music critic and musicologist, focusing primarily on Wagner. With Julius Kapp, he edited the first two volumes of "Richard Wagners gesammelte Briefe" (Leipzig, 1914). (1845)
