Porter, Cole. (1891–1964)

Personal Photographs and Signed Portrait to Sam Stark

Grouping of photographs of the important composer/lyricist, including a signed Hal Phyfe portrait of Porter signed and inscribed in blue ink "11/29/44/ Love to li'l Sam,/ from Cole," together with three original candid personal snapshots, one of a shirtless Porter seated by the edge of a pool and two of him with Sam Stark at Boulder Damn in Colorado, where they went on a road trip together in 1948. Together with an additional same-format candid of an unidentified barechested hunk at the same poolside.  All measuring approx. 2.5 x 3.5 inches (6.5 x 9 cm.) The inscribed photograph with various stains and discoloration spots, otherwise fine.
The Los Angeles jewelry dealer Sam Stark was one of the composer's closest friends and as many of their letters suggest, is believed to also have been one of Porter's lovers. (18384)
