"Les frères" - Signed Poster

Signed publicity poster for the photographer's 1986 autobiography Un Certain Robert Doisneau featuring his famed 1954 photograph "Les frères," inscribed at the upper left in ink "Sept mots nuls - [canceled line] Pour les dix huit ans de Frederique cette image de gymnastique suavage ramassée par un photographe baladeur / Robert Doisneau" ["Seven Null Words - [canceled line] For Frederique's eighteenth birthday this image of outdoor/wild gymnastics collected by a strolling photographer."  Printed by Éditions du chêne. 17.5 x 17 inches (44.5 x 43.5 cm.) Pinholes to upper corners, right top corner bent and nicked, apparent speckling of multicolored paint around right margin, else fine. 

One of the most celebrated French photographers of the 20th Century, Doisneau worked with writers and poets such as Blaise Cendrars and Jacques Prevert, and he credited Prevert with giving him the confidence to photograph the everyday street scenes that most people simply ignored.  Together with Henri Cartier-Bresson he was a pioneer of photojournalism.
