Photograph of 1926 Steinway Banquet in Berlin

Crisp and unusual original first generation doubleweight Von Freyberg of Berlin photograph of the Steinway Banquet at the Hotel Esplanade in Berlin dated June 22, 1926.  The front table attendees shown include (from left to right) Louise Wolff (known as 'Queen Louise'), Frederic Steinway, Mrs Carl Flesch, Emil Bohnke, Melanie Kirth, conductor Erich Kleiber, Mrs Georg Bernhard, and Mrs Fritz Kreisler.  Other readily identifiable guests include violinist Fritz Kreisler, and pianists Edwin Fischer and André Benoist.  Stamped by the photographer on the verso, very fine, 10.5 x 8.25 inches (26.7 x 21 cm.)

The present image of the Steinway trade banquet in Berlin underlines the company's booming worldwide success at the time. That year, the firm had shipped nearly 4000 pianos, a milestone in Steinway history. Guests of honor included eminent musicians, conductors and their families, as well as luminaries from Steinway itself.   (18377)
