The American dancer and so-called "Electric Fairy" Loie Fuller found great success in late-nineteenth-century Paris, appearing at the Folies Bergère and other celebrated venues. Attracting the attention of many artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Chéret, and Rodin, she was frequently painted and became an important figure of the Art Nouveau.  In her dance performances, she combined billowing fabric costumes with innovative lighting techniques to create mesmerizing effects. She was also a pioneer of modern theatrical lighting, holding several patents for technologies that created colored stage lights. (18177)
