Signed Program, Performing with Player Piano

Signed program from the great soprano, who performed at Boston's Symphony Hall on April 9, [1922] in a recital advertised with the headline: "A great singer pays tribute to the Ampico." Along with arias accompanied by a human pianist, Ponselle also sang "Will o' the Wisp" and "Vissi d'Arte" from Tosca accompanied by the Ampico player piano. She has signed in pencil on the cover of the program. Rather heavily wrinkled with some soiling and notes on the internal page; overall very good. 3 pp. 6 x 9 inches (15 x 22.5 cm).

Ponselle was not the only artist to be sponsored by, and appear with the accompaniment of, Ampico player pianos. 1920 saw her appear in Pittsburgh with Arthur Rubinstein, Mischa Levitzki, and George Copeland in a "comparison recital" where the real pianists' playing was directly contrasted with music from the Ampico which they had previously recorded on rolls.
